Our Gourmet Origins
Nathaniel R. Goldston, III, founded the Atlanta-based Gourmet Services, Inc., in 1975. By emphasizing sound food management practices and focusing on customer-oriented service, Mr. Goldston secured foodservice contracts on six college campuses, generating $2.3 million in the company's first year of operation.
Gourmet Services' operating philosophy, to provide quality food at affordable prices, filled a gap in the marketplace and the company found itself in great demand. Over the next year, Gourmet Services experienced rapid growth and expansion. The company nearly tripled its number of clients from six to 17, and increased the number of employees to 1,000 from an original staff of three. Mr. Goldston also made the decision to move the corporate headquarters from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Atlanta, Georgia, in order to fuel continued growth.
In the late seventies and early eighties, Gourmet Services began placing an emphasis on identifying and servicing the real needs of each client. This approach propelled Gourmet Services to the forefront of the foodservice industry by setting a completely new standard of service.
The company continued its growth by developing its School Districts, Airport and Business and Industry divisions, and by adding Concessions Management, Vending and Golf Course Management to its portfolio of services throughout the eighties and into the nineties.
Back on the collegiate front, Gourmet Services extensively researched and determined that branded concepts would provide an ever more meticulous student population the foods they wanted with the convenience they had grown to expect in their everyday lives. As a result, the company began to establish relationships with such companies as Domino's Pizza, McDonald's, Subway, Popeye's, Chick-Fil-A, Planet Smoothie, Schlotzsky's Deli, Cinnabon, and Zero's Subs and Pizza.
Today, Gourmet Services continues to focus on providing the highest quality foodservice programs complemented by impeccable customer service for each of its divisions.
